True or False? Pet microchips locate your pet by using GPS.

Answer: False
A microchip can certainly help reunite you with your lost pet but microchips for pets can’t be used to track them via GPS. A microchip is a small radio-frequency identification device (about the size of a grain of rice) that’s inserted under your pet’s skin.

Your veterinarian will complete the microchip registration by assigning your pet’s information to the unique microchip ID number in an online database. Essentially, it is your pet’s name and your contact information.
Microchips Database
If your pet is found and taken to a veterinary hospital or shelter, the staff will scan your pet, look in the database for your pet’s ID number, and be provided with your contact details. Be sure to keep your information up to date in the database!
